What are the check-in and check-out times, and how do I get in?

Check-in is anytime after 4:30 PM, and check-out is by 10:00 AM. The home has keyless entry — your front-door code is emailed about 3 days before arrival (from “noreply@remotelock.com”). The code won’t work before 4:30 PM on arrival day and stops working at 10:00 AM on checkout day. Tip: use the garage to load and unload luggage to keep bugs and warm/cold air out of the house, and please close the overhead garage door afterward (the garage is heated). Early check-in may be possible only if there’s no check-out that same day.

Park two cars in the driveway in front of the garage, with additional vehicles in the overflow parking area at the top of the driveway. Please note: there is no parking inside the garage, and no parking on the Lake Harbor Estates roads (they’re private and HOA-maintained). In winter the driveway can get icy — there’s a garbage can with sand and a bucket (on the slope just above the garage) you can use to improve traction.

Can I park a boat trailer at the house?

No — the driveway is too long and narrow to turn a trailer around, and any trailer over 12 feet won’t fit. You can store your trailer free of charge at the Trapper’s Landing trailer parking lot, about 1 mile away (Hwy 200 East to 194th Ave NW; look for the small sign marked 6840 & 6854 on the right). Lake Harbor Estates roads don’t allow trailer parking either.

Can I use my own boat, the boat lift, and the dock?

The boat lift works for “V-hull” boats only — pontoons should have “sea legs” to anchor alongside the dock. We do not recommend tying boats to the dock overnight: the dock and Miller Bay are exposed to north winds, waves can pick up, and there are rocks near the shoreline. For any boat not stored on a trailer, we recommend renting a slip at Trapper’s Landing or pulling your boat each day. Shore power is available at the shoreline — bring a 50-foot extension cord to reach your boat.

Where can I launch or rent a boat?

You can use the public access in Whipholt, or pay to use Trapper’s Landing’s private access. For rentals, Recreational Rentals (gorentfun.com) delivers pontoons to the dock and rents jet skis/PWC. J&K Marine and Trapper’s Landing also rent pontoons and fishing boats. If you rent a pontoon, ask for “sea legs.”

How deep is the water, and is it safe for swimming?

There’s a stair down to a landing at the shore, and a swim ladder at the end of the dock. Water depth is about 3 feet at the end of the dock, with a shallow sandy bottom, and we put out a lily-pad swim pad from about June 15 to September 15. Please wear water shoes — there are rocks near the shore that attract zebra mussels, plus logs sunk in the sand, and both can cut bare feet. Also note the wooden deck at the shore is not part of our property, so please don’t use it. Heads up that getting down to the lake involves a steep lawn and stairs, which can be difficult for guests with limited mobility.

What's available for grilling and cooking?

There’s a gas grill on the deck (with a backup propane tank in the garage) plus two small charcoal grills in the garage. If you’d like to use the charcoal grills, you’ll need to bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid. The kitchen has an electric cooktop and oven, and both a drip and a Keurig coffee maker (k-cups, filters, sugar, and hot chocolate provided).

Can I go ice fishing in winter?

Yes, but note there is no direct lake access from the home’s shore in winter. Use the ice road from Trapper’s Landing Harbor, about 1 mile to the east — Trapper’s Landing charges about $20/day to use their road. The public access to Leech Lake in Whipholt is closed to ice access. You can also store your trailer at Trapper’s Landing during your stay.

No — pets are not allowed at Northern Waters Lodge, inside or in the garage.

Are beach towels provided?

All bath and kitchen towels and bed linens are provided, but beach towels are not — please pack your own.

Additional: House Rules No parking on Lake Harbor Estates roads. These are private roads owned and maintained by the homeowner's association. No parties or events allowed. All garbage must be bagged before putting in the garbage cans No ATV's may be ridden on the property or Lake Harbor Estates Roads. Please respect the noise curfew of 10 pm. Please respect check-in (10 am) and check-out (4 pm) times. Please don’t rearrange the furniture. No tents, RV's or outdoor camping on the property. No smoking allowed in the home or garage. Smoking on the deck is permitted so long as butts and ashes are contained. No pets allowed. Please don’t eat or drink in the bedrooms. Please take care of the furnishings. You have to pay for damages that exceed the security deposit. No illegal substances allowed on the premises (drugs, fireworks of any kind, etc.) Primary renter must be 25+ years old
